I must say this is a great article I enjoyed reading it keep the good work
Thank You Ben,
I work with former felons; to re-integrate them into today’s world. Stepping out into the twentyfirst century…in the midst of a full-blown recession can be daunting at best.
I answer questions for ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs at my blog: http://www.howfelonscangetjobs.blogspot.com/
After reading you site, I found several articles to be very useful for me. I bookmarked your site!
Does anyone know if there is places out there in the construction area in colorado that will hire a felon before he is out of prison. My husband gets out in 6 weeks I am trying to help him get set up and a job is his #1 priority. So if anyone knows of any place that can help please let me know
Michelle,
There are @ 350 felon-friendly employers in Colorado. Felon-friendly however depends on the crime. If it was a violent crime that involved a weapon, that list becomes greatly reduced. If it is fraud and/or embezzlement that number goes way down. Your husband may have a better chance if he aplies to Mom and Pop businesses where background checks are less likely. Today’s business owners have so many applicants to choose from, that your hubby will need to send out 10 times as many resumes as someone who has a cleaner background. How are you doing Michelle? Do you have the necessary support and resources to prepare you for when he comes home? If there has been a history of verbal/emotional abuse please visit http://www.youarenotcrazy.com You husband will have a very difficult time adjusting to a world with so many chooses, protect you finances. Don’t let him go anywhere near a credit card. Warm Regards, Victoria
This is my first visit here, but I will be back soon, because I really like the way you are writing, it is so simple and honest
I have to say, every time I come to http://www.lifestagingblog.com there is another fascinating post up. One of my friends was telling me about this topic a few weeks ago. I think I will send my friend the url here and see what they say.
Hi, colleague! I love your blog, it’s so interesting! I think it’s pretty popular, isn’t it?

Great sharing this.
Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!
What are the chances of a felon getting a job with a marijuana possession with intent to distribute charge? This conviction is 6 years old.
Very good information, you write with clarity. I’m very lucky to get this information from you.
Josh, It depends on the interviewer/hiring manager. Most life-altering ‘oops’ occur when we are 18-25 years old. It is unlikely that the majority of hiring managers did not have their own ‘oops’.
Just want to say what a great blog you got here!
I’ve been around for quite a lot of time, but finally decided to show my appreciation of your work!
Thumbs up, and keep it going!
Cheers

Great experience! Thanks for this great post, Wow… it’s very wonderful report!
I loved this article!!! Thanks!
I have an11 year old felony conviction for theft. I havebeen out for 10 years now and have not committed another crime. I have found that most of the time just as soon as an employer sees the felony box checked on the first page of their application they no longer have any positions available. So with all that being said my question is this, what about those of us who made a mistake and are trying very hard to be productive with the rest of their lives? Help anyone??
great experience, dude! thanks for this great
Articles wow… it’s very wonderful report.
I really love the topic that you shared. Thank you for posting.
Networking will your greatest ally in seeking employment. Expand your network-socially, professionally, and exponenetially. Volunteer, work part-time, etc., but put yourself out there wher the tru you can be seen.
really appreciate YOU — thanks a lot!
Your site has really been helpful to me and I thank you for your time and effort working on it. Good Luck!
Nice dispatch and this mail helped me alot in my college assignement. Thanks you as your information.
Nice Information.. Thx for sharing this
information
I actually have a question, and was hoping you could e-mail my address with the answer.
Anyway, I have a Misdemeanor charge for possession of Codine, a Theft charge-that was not supposed to show up on my record-, both from 2009. I was just convicted of a Felony for Conspiracy to Distribute and given 2 years probation.
Another problem I’m having is the fact that I’m female, 47 years old, and have a lot of unemployed time in between jobs.
Do you have any suggestions or ideas that may help me find gainful employment?
I do have customer service, clerical, cashiering, shipping/receiving and other skills.
I’m just really frustrated, and my record sucks, obviously. But how do you try to change your life-and path-with the kind of obsticals that present them selves when you have a FRESH Felony?!
PLEASE HELP!
I congratulate you…you possess simply excellent ideas
Deborah, It may be helpful to volunteer for a duration. Even if you volunteer 4 hours a week for 2-3 years, it shows commitment, loyalty, perseverence, continuity, endurance, etc. Choose something that you are passionate about; Dumb Friends League, Food Pantries, Hospice, etc.. This will help you ‘stick’. Drug use, distribution, and theft are the top three absolute no’s that an employer watches for. Add chronic unemployment and/or job-hopping and red flags raise all over the place. A larger corporation will conduct a background check each and every time. You will have better luck with a start-up, Mom & Pop Shop, or through networking; perhaps an Uncle, neighbor, church member would be willing to give you a second chance.
The bigger issue is…Why the need to escape? What you have described is a form of avoidance /escapism. You are worthy of love and acceptance…first you must love and accept yourself. Is it time to put a stake in the ground, move forward, and never turn back to former coping strategies that did not work then and certainly won’t work now? You are so worth the effort.
What a wonderful blog. I spend hours on the internet reading blogs, about tons of different subjects. I have to first of all give kudos to whoever created your website and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an amazing post. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only a few posses and frankly you have it. The combination of informative and quality content is definitely extremely rare with the large amount of blogs on the internet.
This is my first time I have visited your site. I found a lot of interesting stuff in your blog. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one! keep up the good work.
“The circumstances that surround a man’s life are not important. How that man responds to those circumstances is important. His response is the ultimate determining factor between success and failure.”
Mr. Booker T. Washington
Here is a little FYI-I actually was picked for a job with Coca-Cola-until I answered the question “do you have any felonies?” I was told that instantly disqualifies me.
I picked their name off of the felon-friendly list for Denver employers!
Go figure.
Thank you for your wisdom. I will be back soon.
Felon-friendly organizations don’t always employ felon-friendly hiring managers. Certain felonies have more impact on an organizations bottom line such as theft or embezzlement. Others have less impact such as domestic violence against proprty (keyed the ex’s car). Employers must also be mindful of the impact a specific felony has on a specific hiring manager; i.e., a hiring manager that was date-raped as a teenager will look at a sexually-related felony differently than a man that has never been exposed to such an atrocity.
I have found that most of the time just as soon as an employer sees the felony box checked on the first page of their application they no longer have any positions available.
Tanya,
Have you ever become outraged by his outrageous behavior? Have you ever called him out on his lies? Have you considered appropriate consequences for his adolescent behavior? Perhaps it is time for you to move on to greener pastures; build a better life for yourself and your children.
What are the chances of a job hiring a felon for Second-degree burglary. It is currently showing on my background check as pending so I have not been formally convicted yet. But I was wondering what I should do and what jobs I should stay away from with my background?
I am an ex-offender, and I work at Applebee’s Restaurant, I have been there since I was released 4 years ago. I am now a Senior in College and am focusing my career on re-integration for ex-offenders and those with substance abuse issues. I am actually doing an article on ex-offenders, and resources that actually help offenders who are trying to turn their lives around. I want to say Thank you for the blog and the information concerning felony friendly employers. I wanted to ask if you know how old is the information, and when was the last time it was updated? The reason I am asking is because I want to find resources for ex-offenders that are actually up to date, and will honestly consider and hire ex-offenders. This list seems like the same one that has been distributed by parole officers and prisons for quite a few years. Would you have that type of information?
Hey,
Just wanted to thank you for the links you took the time to research and post.
I know this is prolly late to the ‘party’, but I have 3 misdemeanors and 1 PO/Unclassified on my record.
I’m trying to find work as well. I guess my question is also how bad the economy is at the same time. It’s kinda a ‘Perfect Storm’ of unemployment and add that to ANYONE trying to get a job with any criminal record.
I just wanted to stop & say this is amazing what you are doing for x~offenders. My husband is currently inside and his fears are that he’s not going to be able to find a stable & safe job and provide the way he wants to. I started my search a few minutes ago and your page came up with the felon friendly jobs I must admit I feel a bit relieved
Thank you so much!!! I know my husband struggles with confidence when he job searches so this will help when he comes home:)
I am wondering if this website is still being managed and if the information here is accurate?
Hi. I read through your list and have to say that this list is an older one. As there are companies on this list such as Target, Pepsi, and a few others that are not felony friendly any longer. I have been searching for a full time career since the beginning of this mess. I keep trying but unfortunately, the doors keep closing for a theft charge. Although my charge was in 2007 and I completed my sentence and recently released successfully from parole and just want to get back into the normal work force. I currently work for a plumber as a secretary and before that a cashier, but this job is only part time and having a tough time paying my rent. I have 20 years of customer service, data entry and other skills I have to offer any company. But when it comes to the background check. I for some reason am not able to get the door to open. Any suggestions for this good Christian woman just needing a chance to get back on the right track. Please let me know. Thank you for listening.
A Fidelity Bond can help felons get a job–a federal guarantee to any company that hires a felon that this company will be protected for $5,000, in case you commit a crime of dishonesty on the job, once hired.
Certain employers will now hire you, given this fidelity bond protection, if they know they have some type of insurance, just in case you commit a crime of dishonesty against them, once you’re hired.
Felons, when you apply to jobs, explain this fidelity bond option to the employer, as a way to get them to trust you (lots of employers don’t trust the felon, and this bond gives them a new option to build trust).
Employers can get this fidelity bond at no cost, and they can do it immediately upon hiring you, without any paperwork.
Felons, look into fidelity bonds, and school yourself on the information well, so that you can go to job interviews confident and able to explain it to the employer.
First, start by googling “fidelity bond” now, and start schooling yourself. Next, apply to jobs, and explain how they can get a fidelity bond once they hire you, and make sure to give them the right phone number and email address to contact, so that they can get the information themselves.
Victoria Hi,
Iam So frustrated I received a felony in 2001, ever since then I feel Like I have leprosy. Ive gone to several job interviews in the past
few years, I mean like hundreds, Everything through the interview seems to be going great, they love my experience, very impressed
until they see the felony then turn cold as ice and say that thier very sorry but company policy, there’s nothing I can do have a nice day.
HOW LONG MUST I PAY FOR THIS????? Please if there is anything you can do, I’d love too discuss this with you. Thank You.
John
I like your list of companies that hire felons. It has been very helpful. Although Iam still looking it has helped to expand my search. I’ve only been out 2 months and my felonies are serious. I remain hopeful. I am looking forward to any other information. Thanks for the help Stanley
I was convicted in 2002 did 4 months in the county jail and paid over $30,000 in restitution and I have taken the federal bonding information to job interviews with me. I still can not get a decent permanent position in the this state. I tried to become a certified addiction counselor and the state wanted me to pay $700 for someone to tell them that I was clean. Never mind that I never failed a drug test for 4 years straight. I have been clean and sober since April 2002 and the only work I can get is a customer service job and it is a long term temp job. I did not see any employers listed as felony friendly where are they?
Having a record (Felony, in 2005.) I knew things would be hard…moving forward. Luckily I landed a great paying job in the technology field, I was the assistant to the President & CEO for the company. I have a pretty good resume that I love throwing around, one of which I am proud of. I have no problem prostituting my work life. I am excellent at operations and organization. Too bad my felony comes up again and again as other candidates are chosen.
January of this year, I left a 44K paying job, my Italian boss was a complete asshole, he treated me like dog shit..so I decided it was time to get out. I thought life is over, after applying for jobs all over Denver…I sat down and thought, what else can one do?
I saw an advertisement for Concorde Career College sometime back and decided to sit down and meet with admissions. Yesterday, 12/5/2011, I thought YES…I can at least go back to school to obtain a degree. After being there for over 4 hours, meeting with the admissions, financial aid and touring the school, and testing (of which I passed…) I was completely honest with the admissions guy (Mike Castellano) he assured me I would be fine and I had nothing to worry about. He checked and double checked before I left…all was still fine.
During the grueling loan and application process today, 12/6/11, whether it be through Wells Fargo or Sallie Mae, they make applying for a student loan a complete joke. I am 45 years old, I never once ever had to ask for a co-signer. At any rate, a co-signer is needed after having excellent credit.
Mike, admissions contact called me tonight and told me he was sorry, but because of my felony, I was not able to be placed in their “Job Placement Service” after speaking with several contacts at Concorde Career College. He also told me to save my money since they could not guarantee any job with an Associates in the Medical Field. I was completely bummed out. I was very adamant yesterday when I sat down with Mike and divulged my hurdle. He said it would be “No Problem,” it would not hinder my education or placement and internship.
I am lost…I don’t know what the hell to do, go to and where my life is headed. I’m single, and simply wanted to improve my life and get past this. I find this event to be a complete slap in my face when I was completely excited, gun-ho and move forward. This news today came to a complete joke.
If the educational system and society continue to hold shit against you, what it the purpose of life then?
Thanks alot, this country can kiss my ever living ass. I am so tired of trying to re-establish my life.
ive been unemployed for over two years now and ive applied at just about every crap job there is,i got a felony conviction over 7 years ago,if this country is going to get any better you better bring back the forgive and forget days over 50% of americans have a felony conviction on there record, take a look at the prison system, the biggest money maker in this country, people get out, cant find work, go back to prison for violation of parole, what a wonderfully fucked up system,
I have some misdemeanors on my record for shoplifting and one disorderly conduct. I have a medical assistant diploma from Everest college and a Qualified Medication Administer Person license that is active from the Colorado public heath and environment, but it is extremely hard to find a job. that job i had took advantage of me and only paid me $!100.00 for a each 24hr shift i did. And worked like three shifts a week. Do you have any tips for me trying to get in the health care fields with these misdemeanors on my record. I tried to get them expunged but they wont already tried. Please give me some tips or advice. Thank you
im actually tryin to relocate to the denver area, unfortunately i lost a good job because of a mistake and i need to know if anyone has an idea on how to rebound from a messy backround…skipped prison been in county a couple charges for assualt, domestic dwai ,etc.. but a good resume any ideas..
Does anyone have information about asbestos contractors that hire workers with criminal records?
I too have barriers to gainful employment as a result of past behaviors related to addiction. I get discouraged at times but I put myself in the position on the employer. We, as people with criminal records pose a threat to the employer in various areas. When there are tens and thousands of others job seekers with the same or more skills(without barriers) they will always get the job first. Instead of getting angry about anyone giving me a second chance, I’m always mindful of who put me where I am. ME! Am I proud, NO! This has been a very humbling experience which has taught me to be grateful for the small things that I have taken for granted. I’m 42 years old, I have 2 small children who are dependent on me, I’m unemployed, I lost my LPN license due to behaviors related to addiction, I’m unable to go back to school because I owe the college. I can sit around and feel sorry for myself or continue to strive to do better! I participate in my recovery daily, put God first and continue to take it a day at a time. It’s not easy, but my experience has taught me what insanity is, repeating the same thing over and over expecting different results. I have allowed my experience to be tools for growth and not a reason to give up. I hope this blog helps someone who thinks their bottom is worse than the next persons, but a “yet” if you choose to change it will remain a “yet.”
Nearly 10 years after being convicted of my only nonviolent and “victimless” felony, I like many individuals, am still desperately seeking DECENT employment. I served no time and have no other criminal record. This is in addition to my steadily declining health (physically, roofing, etc is not an option). Two college degrees have also seemingly been completed in vain. While I am certain that blogs such as this are extremely beneficial and we need more of them, again I find myself discouraged.

He is due to be having a new baby any day, and with the fines and fees that come with a DUI is in great need of employment ASAP. Trying to keep employment in Aurora area, but can travel a bit further if needed. Any suggestions would be apprciated
